The Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) held a JIIA Forum in which Paul J. Saunders (President, Center for the National Interest), Fumiaki Kubo (President, National Defense of Academy, Japan), and Ryo Sahashi (Associate Professor, The University of Tokyo) analyzed the US presidential election and considered its likely consequences.

With a focus on Mr. Saunders' areas of expertise, i.e., US-Russia relations and US-China relations, the group discussed the Ukraine War, cross-strait relations, Japan-US relations, and the future of US politics under a Trump administration in the Republican Party's trifecta scenario of winning the presidential election and a majority in both the House and Senate of the US Congress.

The forum featured a lively discussion lasting approximately an hour and a half, with many questions from both in-person and online participants.
